Fordingbridge Events Group and Fordingbridge Town Council is hosting a family event on Friday, 1 December, from 5.00 – 8.00 pm to celebrate the Christmas light switch-on and spread some festive cheer. There will be late-night shopping, steam rides, roast chestnuts, a children’s entertainer, fairground rides, mulled wine and a lantern parade crafted by members of the local community.

Santa will be joining the celebrations for the light switch on at 6.00pm and afterwards, you can find Santa in his Grotto at Avonway Community Centre where you can meet the great man himself and some of his trusty elves! Visitors to the grotto will have the chance to see some farmyard animals too.

Christmas in Fordingbridge will kick off at 5.00pm with a Christmas Lantern parade. Musical interludes by Soprano Poppy Neame and the SingSpace Choir.

Pete White, Fordingbridge Mayor and Chair of Fordingbridge Events Group, says: ‘We are so excited to be doing the lights switch on. It will be a night to remember and there will be activities for all the family. The evening will have something for everyone so come and get festive with us.’

Activities in town throughout the evening include late night shopping, children’s entertainer ‘Crazy Kev’ in the Town Hall, sweet stalls and fairground rides.

Hair Lounge (2 Provost Street) are offering 10 pieces of hair tinsel for £5 between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm on a first come first served basis. The Regal Cinema (35 Shaftesbury Street) will be showing ‘The Muppets Christmas Carol’ on repeat throughout the evening and opportunity to look around the Art Deco cinema.

Approximate timings for the evening

4.00pm: Roads closed – affected streets include Roundhill, the High Street, Provost Street and Shaftesbury Street.

5.00pm: Events starts – late night shopping, fairground rides, sweet and roast chestnut stalls, music and children’s entertainer.

5.30pm: Lantern’s and Santa parade through the town

6.00pm: Santa switches on the Christmas lights and then heads to his grotto outside Avonway Community Centre

6.30 – 8.00pm: Carol singing, late night shopping and Santa in his grotto at Avonway Community Centre.

Pop in to the United Reform Church and pick up a gift from their craft market. If you haven’t already been take a trip around Fordingbridge Museum, now’s the time. Enjoy complimentary stollen and mulled wine and kids can chance their luck at the lucky dip.

The following roads will be CLOSED to traffic on Friday, 1st December, for the FORDINGBRIDGE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON. Please ensure that you do not need to access the listed roads during the times below.

Road closure is shown in red on the map and the diversions in blue.

There will be FREE PARKING in Fordingbridge ALL DAY. The car park will be accessible via Roundhill, Bartons Road and Green Lane/The Bartons as usual.

3.30pm – 9.00pm
PROVOST STREET between its junction with High Street and its junction with Farriers

4.00pm – 9.00pm
PROVOST STREET – between its junction with Farriers and its junction with Church Street/West Street

Join us to “Light up Fordingbridge” with Storytelling g Lantern Parade on Friday 1st December. The wonderful Danyah Miller is an international storyteller, solo performer, writer and story trainer and will be telling tales Of light and wonder at the Salvation Army Hall, Fordingbridge. Then as friends, family, local groups and organisations parade through the Town Centre with Santa for the Christmas Lights Switch On,we will be “Lighting up Fordingbridge” with lanterns of many shapes and sizes; you can join in the fun or
just come to watch!
