Happy boy discovering the world he lives in

New Forest District Council (NFDC) will be sharing a climate-themed message from their stand at this year’s New Forest and Hampshire County Show.

Cllr Geoffrey Blunden, NFDC’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability said, “We’re returning to the Show with a vital focus on ‘Caring for the Climate’ and the impact of climate change on our coastline.”

“If you’re attending this year, come to our stand to try our fun challenges and games, chat to us about how climate change is affecting our coast and beyond, and find out what we can do to understand and tackle it together.

“Make waves with our mini wave simulator which shows the impact of high tides, be a net zero hero and learn about alternatives to plastic products, and pick up some sustainable and money-saving tips to try at home.”

“We’ve thought carefully about our presence at the show and taken the most sustainable options where possible. We’ve re-used what we can, including bringing back our popular ‘pledge tree’ from last year, and opted for items made from sustainable materials.

One of our games has been created reusing items – wood from an old polling booth, empty cleaning product buckets, and old NFDC uniforms.

The props for our photo booth are all borrowed or bought second hand from local charity shops rather than new, and we also have a free water refill station on our stand.”

“Joining us at the Show is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to learn, have fun and take away some ideas about how to look after our surroundings better.”

NFDC are partnering with Channel Coastal Observatory and Hampshire County Council’s climate team. Staff will be on-hand to share tips for the planet and offer the opportunity to get involved in plans to protect the coast.

The New Forest Show will take place in Brockenhurst on Tuesday 25 July, Wednesday 26 July, and Thursday 27 July. Residents can visit NFDC at their stand next to the East Ring in block 24.

NFDC are also working with The New Forest Agricultural Show Society to sponsor the Farm Experience Zone.
