New Forest District Council is encouraging local people to make sure they are registered to vote at both the Police & Crime Commissioner elections on 5 May and the Referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union on 23 June 2016.

To be able to vote in the elections on 5 May, residents must register by 18 April.

Registering for the May elections will also mean that voters are registered in good time before the referendum on 23 June.

Bob Jackson, Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer of New Forest District Council, said, “Time is running out to make sure you can take part in the Police & Crime Commissioner elections, so I’d encourage everyone in the District to take action now if they’re not already registered to vote.

It’s easy and only takes a few minutes online –  www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.  You will need your national insurance number and date of birth so be sure to have these to hand when you log on.”

If residents are unable to register on-line, or if they have any questions about registering to vote, they should contact New Forest District Council’s electoral services team on (023) 8028 5445.
